We cruised the Mexican Riviera over spring break 2020, right before cruise ships discontinued service because of Coronavirus. We left Long Beach a day late since our ship was quarantined with a sick passenger from the previous cruise. Little bit of a fiasco but they tested negative for Covid, so we were able to cruise. π We were suppose to stop in Mazatlan, Cabo & Puerto Vallarta but skipped Mazatlan because of the delay.
(I took a train from Nogales to Mazatlanπ³ on a Senior Trip in High School and was looking forward to returning... Still can't believe my parents let me go on that trip. The train ride was as crazy as you can imagine! It showed up 5 hours late in Nogales with bullet holes in the windows. π³ Chickens, booze and throw up... OH MY! π±)
Bon Voyage!
We were so excited to finally board the ship! Our temperature was taken at check-in and Carnival employees served all food at the buffet. We felt as safe as we could; not really understanding the virus.
The first day at sea was spent exploring the ship and of course finding the ice cream machines! π We also attended a dance party on the deck! Cruising on Carnaval is a big party... always so much fun!π
We loved the food on Carnival Panorama! We also enjoyed trying out different restaurants included with the cruise. My favorites were Guys Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina and Pizzeria del Capitano. π Just thinking about this is making me hungry!Towel animals are a cruise tradition and one I look forward to. Watch your cruise itinerary for the day they'll be displayed on the pool deck. Each evening a new towel animal will appear in your cabin. They also have a towel folding class where you can learn how to make your own towel animals.
Towel Animals!
AWE!π
PUERTO VALLARTA
We booked a tour through Puerto Vallarta Tours and took a taxi to meet our boat (FYI it's a long walk to reach the outside of the cruise terminal to get a taxi). Booking through this company saved us quite a bit on our private excursion... We had a private boat for the eight of us. We went snorkeling, whale watching, fished and stopped at the village of Yelapa to eat and swim on the beach.
It just kept getting better, whales, parrots, and holding an Iguana to top it off!!
We were told they don't have roads leading to this beach; you can only arrive by boat.
We loved our balcony! We got a decent deal and loved spending time on it. We don't get a balcony every time we cruise, but we really enjoy it when we do!
Social Distancing at its finest. π
For two girls who graduated High School in the 80's we didn't need to google what to wear. π We lived it and rocked 80's night!π―
Taking the tender to shore. When docking isn't possible on a large ship tender boats carry passengers to the pier.
CABO SAN LUCAS
Lovers Beach
We didn't pre-book a tour in Cabo since you can easily hire a water taxi at the dock. This is a way to save on your excursions. We took a glass-bottom water taxi to Lands's End then we were dropped off at a beach. We arranged for them to pick us up and take us back to the dock a few hours later (make sure to get their phone number).
We were happy to learn CABO had NO Corona Virus. π
We enjoyed the activities on Carnival Panorama. We went on water slides, the ropes course, trampoline park, SkyRide, and relaxed at the pools. Our kids were in Heaven and of course the parent's too since we were able to send them to Camp Ocean and have a peaceful dinner by ourselves. π
Enjoying one last sunset! We were grateful for the memories made before docking back at Long Beach. We were worried we might get stuck on the ship if someone came down with Corona. We didn't, and it was the quickest debarkation we've ever experienced. Our cruise ship went back to sea with just the staff and hasn't seen passengers since our cruise. After we returned home, life quickly changed. We couldn't find toilet paper, π had to start wearing masks, and schools were closed. We look forward to life getting back to normal and to sail on a cruise again soon! π³π«
