It's a CIRCUS up there...
And I'm not talking about the passengers!
Just flew with a bunch of pranksters...
Felt like I was in Flight Attendant Initiations all over again!

The ring leader...

I've been SouthernFried... In Mississippi!

I get a kick flying through the South. I adore wide brimmed hats and the Southern drawl...
yes, ma'am,
honey,
darlin',
sugah.
I'm enchanted by plantation homes with tree lined streets... Spanish moss, lanterns, shutters, magnolia trees and the scent of Southern fried food.
Genteel Poverly
On a recent layover I wandered through the streets in Jackson, Mississippi wondering why I straightened my hair... the humidity creates chaos to my already naturally curly hair. I figured my hair could use Truvy's help (hair dresser in Steel Magnolias played by Dolly Pardon). Did this group of Southern women really exist? Could there be a Truvy, Annelle, Clairee, Shelby, Weezer, and M'Lynn?
Meanwhile Weezer (yes, she does exist) told us if we were going to keep talking we needed to leave. Seriously... we were in the back of the church and we were whispering.
First Baptist Church
I passed a church and thought of Annelle (A quirky religious girl played by Daryl Hannah) and suddenly heard Gospel music. I wandered in and asked Shelby, a cute Southern Belle what was going on? She told me in her sweet Southern drawl that the Mississippi Mass Choir (who sang at Obama's inauguration) was recording a DVD with the First Baptist Choir. All I can say is the SOUTH was ALIVE! My new Southern friend told me this was a historical event. The First Baptist Jackson church is a "white" congregation and this was the first time a "black" choir performed here. Wow, things are different in the South. Meanwhile Weezer (yes, she does exist) told us if we were going to keep talking we needed to leave. Seriously... we were in the back of the church and we were whispering.

Just another day in the glamorous life of a FLIGHT ATTENDANT...

But this day it would stump me a little.
Passenger... "Would you please tell the person in front of me to stop scratching their scalp?"
Me... "huh?"
Passenger... "She's been scratching her head the entire flight!"
Me... "Are you joking?"
Passenger... "No!"
I immediately had a flashback to the movie "Breakfast Club". You know...the part where Allison scratches her head to add snow on a picture she drew during her day at detention.
Wow...so what do you say to a request like that? I offered to find the passenger who rang the call light a different seat.
Just another glamorous day in my life as a flight attendant!

How 'bout a shine?
I did a double take as I passed a
ShoeShiner @ the airport...how could you not?
(short skirt)
The flight attendant leaned over and said:
"Desperate times call for Desperate measures!"
After I took the picture the pilot looked up with that
oh...I was caught
look.

GROUND HOG DAY?!
This past weekend I worked a 2-day trip with a long layover in San Diego.
I got to the airport and realized it was the same trip I worked last month on Friday the 13th with the same flight attendant and a delay on the same flight (I rarely work the same trip twice and I can go years and not work with the same flight attendant).
I was starting to feel like I was in the movie GROUND HOG DAY!
Day 1: Was one of those days... "I like my job, right?"
Day 2: "I love my job!"
I went to breakfast at Perry's Cafe near Old Town. It's popular and it was packed! I had a yummy frittata.
I met jewelry designer Efy Tal and couldn't resist my latest find... A cherry blossom necklace. Doesn't it mean more when you actually buy from the hands of the designer?
Then I wandered behind Old Town and saw signs to a trail. I went up a hill and through the woods (park) and found more trails in a beautiful canyon. And somehow I managed to find my way back to the hotel without getting lost. Great layover in SD!

pilots fly to 65...
I just flew with a pilot that was one of our more senior captains who is now one of our most junior first officers. He retired 3 weeks before the FAA raised the age of flying from 60 to 65. He has a good sense of humor about it... you would have to right? He had to go back through training, flying weekends and took a huge pay cut. We had a good laugh after we realized I was making more money then him.
He's very excited to fly another 5 years!

flying during spring break!
I just got back from a 3 day trip with packed flights and lots of families. It's nice to see... I'd like to keep my job.
We had a UM(unaccompanied minor) ring her call light and ask "how big are your TURKEYS"? She had to repeat her question since the flight attendant was confused. "I'd like a turkey". The flight attendant noticed the UM was holding the drink menu. The Flight attendant... "I'm sorry honey Wild Turkey is an adult beverage".
We had another child on board who was wearing his iPod and singing at the top of his lungs. It was really cute... Oh to be a child again!

FRIDAY THE 13TH

Note to self...
No more Friday night flights through Las Vegas!
Our plane was already late getting to Phoenix because of weather then as it pulled up to the gate they noticed it had a fuel leak. Why did I pick up a trip on Friday the 13th? 2 1/2 hours later we left on a 35 minute full flight to Vegas with lots of un-happy passengers!!!
I haven't served that much alcohol since I worked a flight to New Orleans during Mardi Gras. One man asked for 12 Jack Daniels (he got one)! Seriously, even if you were flying to Europe isn't that too many?!
A few legs later we were so late that we ended up ferrying our plane (no passengers) to San Diego. I was excited since I got to take off and land in the cockpit. That was pretty cool!
So maybe flying on Friday the 13th wasn't so bad after all.

TESTING MY NEW TASSEL EARPLUGS!
You want a pillow... blanket... drink... WHAT?
I worked a great 3-day trip this past weekend with my friend Lori.
Here's where we went...
Day 1:
Phoenix-Los Angeles
Los Angeles-Oakland
Oakland-Burbank
Spent the night in Burbank
Day 2:
Burbank-Phoenix
Phoenix-San Diego
San Diego-Las Vegas
Las Vegas-Kansas City
Spent the night in Kansas City
Day 3:
Kansas City-Orlando
Orlando-Albuquerque
Albuquerque-Phoenix
Nothing too exciting happened on our flights except for a lav overflowing in the back (right next to my jump seat). I called the pilots and told them "shitters full Clark" (from Christmas Vacation) and begged for a smooth landing!
We also had a fearless flyer group onboard. A retired US Air Pilot started "FEARLESS FLIGHT cleared for takeoff" 15 years ago. So glad they got a smooth flight!
