I'm so excited Chihuly's exhibit returned to the Desert Botanical Garden. I'm a huge fan and even met him years ago at the Tacoma Museum of Glass at a book signing and watched him blow glass with other glass blowers from around the world.

Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell & Monument Valley...
ANTELOPE CANYON
Sometimes you don't have to travel far to discover beautiful places. It's sad that it's taken this long for me to finally visit Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell and Monument Valley. These are some of the most beautiful destinations I've seen and they are right in my backyard.

Haboob's A-Brewin'...
One of the craziest storms I've ever seen... Tonight a huge wall of dust headed into town. I couldn't believe how quickly it reached my house and how dark it got! Yep it's that time of the year again...

My Favorite PIZZA in Phoenix...
The Monsoon

My husband recently introduced me to my new favorite PIZZA in Phoenix. It's called Valley Pizza located in a slightly sketchy area. Just wear a bullet proof vest and you should be fine. :) It's not big on atmosphere and the seating area is small but they do deliver.
My favorite Pizza is "The Monsoon". This FABULOUS pizza has a spicy sweet sauce, ranch, mozzarella cheese, breaded chicken, bacon, pineapple, tomato, banana peppers and jalapeno peppers. Are you drooling yet? And I haven't even mentioned how amazing the crust is. So when you've all stopped banning Arizona you have to give it a try. ;)
Guess what I'm having for dinner tonight!

Tale of a journey to the KENTUCKY DERBY~
Re-posting one of my favorite post...
Flying through Louisville during Derby reminds me of the way flying used to be...People all dressed up with hat boxes in tow and a smile on their faces. But then I quickly forget the thought as I realize I have so many hat boxes to store and so little space. But something about the hat boxes puts a smile on my face. I wonder what's the color and the shape? Is it Red and Racy? Does it have Feathers or Flowers? Is it French Couture or more Plain Jane?

But this Tale is about more then
Beautiful Derby Hats...
this is the Tale of
COWBOYS

Heber (my grandfather) & Rex Ellsworth, Mesach Tenney
and Reed Ellsworth
and a Horse
that won the KENTUCKY DERBY!

With $850 in savings from their $50 a week jobs, two cowboys Rex and Reed Ellsworth rented an old truck and left for the 1933 Fasig-Tipton Sales in Lexington, Kentucky. They bought 6 mares and 2 weanlings for $600. Rex became a powerhouse in California racing! In 1946 he borrowed $160,000 to buy a stallion from Aly Khan. From this stallion came Swaps.
In 1955 Rex sent Swaps to Louisville by rail with trainer Mesach Tenney in the same boxcar. Tenney even stayed with Swaps in his stall at Churchill Downs.
And as FAIRY TALES end, SWAPS and jockey Willie Shoemaker won the 1955 KENTUCKY DERBY... all because of a big dream and some hardworking cowpokes from a small town in Arizona.
Dreams can come true!

It's been a beautiful spring in Arizona. All of the winter rain has brought lots of wildflowers to the desert and the cactus are finally starting to bloom...

Frank Lloyd Wright- Taliesin West
I recently re-visited Taliesin West with Dutch Baby who was spending some time in Arizona. We both love design and enjoyed an interesting tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. It was his home and also a school for architects. You'll see students at work and learn about an eccentric man learning to dwell in the desert. Don't miss a visit if your in the Scottsdale area.

Kids, Planes & Spring Break

My sisters kids are on Spring Break so we've been trying to find fun things to do. We ended up at the Chandler Municipal Airport today and had lunch at the Hanger Cafe. You can eat outside and see the planes come and go up close. CC keeps telling me that she wants to go back to the "airplane store". I think she had a good time.

Winter in Sedona's Oak Creek Canyon...
We spent the weekend up North playing in the snow. Charlotte kept saying "ho ho ho". Of course a child would associate the snow with santa. :) On our drive home we took 89A from Flagstaff to Sedona... a slower route but an unforgettable drive especially in the winter. The Canyon is a spectacular 16-mile gorge with streams and waterfalls between sheer rock walls. The drive takes a 3,000 foot descent from the the high altitude in Flagstaff to Sedona with beautiful red rock formations along the way. A pleasant surprise for those who think Arizona is just a desert!

Mesa Historic Home Tour...
This past weekend I attended the 10th Annual Historic Home Tour in Mesa, Arizona. Most of the homes were built in the Bungalow style which originated in California in the 1900's and became popular in Mesa between 1910-1940.
